Case Study: Caroline Bruce, headshots

Caroline Bruce Designs - A Headshot Case Study

I’m delighted to introduce you to Caroline, of Caroline Bruce Designs.  She booked a Headshot Plan session at a recent Headshot Day in Sevenoaks, and came along with lots of creative ideas for her shoot!  I've photographed Caroline's fabulous dress designs on models before, and we've done a branding shoot at her home studio already, so it was lovely to have a turn at capturing her again for some more formal, up to date headshots.

The Headshot Plan session gives us around 30-45 minutes, and includes all my online branding photo planning, brand tips and confidence support if you need.  It takes place as part of a Headshot Day when I book an office space in Sevenoaks for the day, or it can be carried out on its own in your home or office.  It's basically a mini branding shoot for when you can't stretch to or fit in one of my full branding sessions, or want to get a few new up to date photos in between longer bespoke branding sessions.  But it still gets you several new photos to use for your business!

So Caroline now has a range of headshots to share online and use on her website and social profiles.  Usually extra photos fitted in to the Headshot Plan session utilise the office space for some 'at work' images, but for Caroline we captured a set of more creative, ‘arty’ shots that suit her much more.  Here are some of the headshots first though.

Headshots of Caroline Bruce

As you can see, I took several headshot photos of Caroline wearing different outfits that capture her personality and her brand.

Your headshot for your business needs to do several things to work effectively for you.  It needs to look good, it needs to look like you, it needs you to love it so that you are happy to use it, it needs to look professional so that your business does too, and it needs to look like part of your brand.  All so that it gives a great first impression, and the right impression, of you and your business.

I think we achieved all that with Caroline’s headshots!  Plus we’ve got a variety, with and without her glasses, and with different smiles (I prefer her smiling ones, she prefers not to show her teeth!).  We used my black background for some of them too, which I really love.  (Fortunately, it suits Caroline’s creative brand).

Desk Shots of Caroline…

Then we did a few quick desk shots, utilising some of the props that Caroline had carefully picked out and brought with her.  (I will help you with ideas for what to gather together for a Branding Photography session or to bring to a Headshot Plan session).

Then we finished up by using the rest of the time creating some totally different photographs, which are fabulous!   These are much more of a portrait/branding photo of Caroline than a straightforward headshot – have a look at some below.  Usually we would only get these kind of photos during a longer branding shoot, but because Caroline and I have worked together before, and know each other well now, we were able to fit these in at the end of her Headshot Day session.

“Wow, they’re fantastic!” – Caroline, at first sight of her photos!

“Can’t get over those pictures, thank you… I really enjoyed it, but now I have to choose some!” – Caroline

“I really enjoyed the headshot session with Jane as I feel comfortable with her taking pictures of me.  Jane knows how to get me to smile naturally and get the best photos of me.  Jane kindly agreed to allow time for some more creative shots and was open to my input as I like to be a bit different!” – Caroline
